Saskatchewan Library History Project:
The objective of the Saskatchewan Library History Book Project
was to publish a history of library service in Saskatchewan as a
Centennial tribute to Saskatchewan Libraries.
Don Kerr, a well-known writer and teacher at the University of Saskatchewan,
was engaged to prepare the manuscript and the book, A Book in Every
Hand: Public Libraries in
Saskatchewan, has now been published. It's a fascinating account of the challenges and
triumphs, the personalities and the issues involved in the development
of Saskatchewan's public library system.
Beginning with the early development of community book collections and ending with the present
province-wide public library systems, it is a story of harmony and
co-operation unequaled in North America, a story worthy of
documentation. Don utilizes public meeting accounts,
official reports, interviews, and personal experience to document the
struggles, the triumphs and the challenges.
Coteau Books published the completed manuscript.
