SALT History

The Saskatchewan Association of Library Technicians (SALT) was formed in 1976.  In 1978 SALT adopted a constitution as a non-corporated entity and became a Saskatchewan Library Association affiliate.  On June 30, 1983 SALT withdrew from SLA and became an independent association.

Highlights in SALT history:

  • The SALT Newsletter is first published in 1976
  • Letterhead logo designed in 1978

  • On September 7, 1983 SALT requests the government to recognize the association as a non-proft organization
  • The SALT Newsletter became a quarterly publication in 1985-86
  • SALT registers with the Corporate Registry of Saskatchewan Justice and becomes an incorporated association on September 23, 1987
  • In 1994 Meagen Yuriski (the Vice President at the time) decided to put job bank messages on her personal answering machines
  • In 1995 Sophie Malinoski volunteered to put an extra phone in her home and look after the SALT Job Line on her message manager
  • In 1998 the SALT website was created by Sophie Malinoski who maintained it until October 2002
