What is a library anyway?
| |

specific information in an easily accessible, physical location.
The social nature of libraries as institutions where like-minded
individuals gather and the strong social support that libraries

are essentially democratic and the goal of a library is
the improvement of society by helping the individual to

The history of libraries is one that traces a movement
away from preservation and conservation to one of circulation
and an educational purpose that coincides with the development
of democracy and heightened awareness of the individual
and individual rights.

increasingly essential as will the library's ability to
provide specialized information retrieval and dissemination
services in a knowledge-based society. Full
